Enicar was founded in 1913 by the Racine family (Enicar is “Racine” spelled backwards). It began sponsoring mountain climbers and other adventurers with watches in the 1950s for marketing purposes. A Swiss team of climbers wore Enicar watches for example and Mount Everest’s top in 1956.
Seizing on this success, Enicar quickly registered the “Sherpa” name, and began releasing its first Sherpa watches later that year. The Sherpa line would go on to define Enicar through the following years, as it released dozens of different Sherpa models.
1958 saw the launch of the Sherpa dive watches. Enicar adopted the Super Compressor case design manufactured by Ervin Piquerez S.A. (EPSA) from the 1950s to the 1970s. The case design was used by many brands including Longines, JLC and many more.
The36 mm steel compressor case remains in great condition. The watch has its original crosshatch crowns and the “sea pearl” engraving on the case back. The watch has a rotating inner bezel to measure elapsed time that has turned a fantastic tropical brown. The black dial is in good condition with big tritium/zinclfide lume and classic Enicar style hands. We love the red date too! This watch will come on the pictured strap and the movement has been fully checked and regulated by our watchmaker.
